The palette of colours used for the renovation of the ALQUIMIA restaurant was inspired by Angola. The pink earth, rich in iron, and the lush vegetation, rich in its palette of greens and browns, defined the chromatic tones for the restaurant. The aim was to propose an interior architecture that maintained the colonial lines of the 1960s building, characterised by the structure of wooden pillars, beams and joists, and the central marble pillar that organises and defines the elliptical layout of the restaurant. Currently open, as if it were a large porch, the idea was to enclose the elliptical structure of the dining room in order to provide it with air conditioning and offer a higher quality environment.
The new interior design invokes sophistication without ostentation. The lightness of the materials used – marble flooring, marmorino on the walls and high-gloss brass sheet – and the care taken in selecting the colours, evoke a stunning, natural and glamorous Angola. The restaurant is bordered by areca palm trees, philodendrons and heliconias. The symbiosis between the interior and exterior is created in a very natural and subtle way, with only simple glass separating the garden and the dining room.
In the centre of the dining room bar, a geometric shape appears that opens onto the ceiling, reminiscent of Angola’s national tree – the baobab. The golden baobab evokes the intense, warm sunlight of Angola and its mineral wealth – rich in ores and gold; the pink marmorino applied to the walls of the restaurant, as well as the furniture, made of local ironwood, take us back to its unique natural landscapes, rich in fauna and flora.
We are in the centre of Luanda; however, entering the restaurant is immersing ourselves in a magical and stunning Angola with breathtaking natural landscapes, rich in fauna and flora. Dining at the Garden Grill Luanda involves tasting international dishes without neglecting local and unique ingredients. Here you can breathe sophistication without leaving Angola.
