For this project we used a different approach without compromising our conceptual identity. The land is what designs the house: each floor of the architectural object takes the form of a “box” and its orientation varies with its use. The villa is sheltered to the north and faces the remaining cardinal points, contributing to a good use of the sun. The rectangular site, with different levels, is divided into three areas: of particular note is the social area, with its swimming pool providing the finishing touch to the paved platform of the house.
The architectural aesthetic of the house takes the form of two boxes where the horizontal planes of the ends are detached. These boxes with different orientations and uses create a singular whole, without losing the identity of our work. At the spatial level, the type of experience defines the stereotomy of each “box”. The living spaces on the ground floor are made of polished concrete with the staircase in the role of protagonist. For the more private upper floor we use wood, a warmer material, in the bedrooms and bathrooms.
The shape of the building produces an interesting light-shade effect that stimulates the experience of the house. The materials selected, the walls with marmorino-type mineral lime coating in beige tones on the first floor and the ipê wood panelling on the second floor, create a distinctive effect. Hence, we find that the architectural composition merges seamlessly with the terrain.
