For the Casa SM, an architectural body was adopted that could adapt to the natural topography of the site, which slopes to the north. The volume projects onto a platform that clings to the ground, to the south. As it advances to the north, the body gradually detaches itself from the terrain, finally ending up in a cantilever, appearing to levitate over the terrain.
The “L” shape of the object seeks to ensure a reasonable distance from the public road and, at the same time, allow a large sheltered and landscaped area for the enjoyment and privacy of the clients.
We designed a house on a generally rectangular flat base, along two axes, with a single floor and two types of use. We organised the experiential spaces with the greatest circulation on the east-west axis, where the entrance hall, the interior patio for contemplation, the open-plan living room and kitchen, utility room, a guest parking and, finally, covered parking, are located. The north-south axis houses the intimate spaces – a master bedroom, comprising a walk-in wardrobe and bathroom, and two suites.
The main façade proposes four skewed vertical planes that make the house visually appealing and seek to create a distinctive play of light. The “L” shape also results in a large porch, so that all bedrooms and the living room have direct access to the pool. The porch extends to the covered car park, which can house four vehicles. Access to the house is via the street to the east.
