The only pedestrian or road access to the house is from Rua Flor da Rosa to the northwest.
We designed a house located in the centre of the plot, with an almost quadrangular shape. It surrounds a central courtyard with a tree that ascends above the house through a circular opening in the roof.
The interior circulation of the house takes place around the central courtyard, where the house opens onto it through several round arched openings, which is a reference to traditional vernacular Azorean construction elements.
This is a 3-bedroom, single-storey house. The ground floor consists of the entrance hall, an open-plan kitchen, dining and living room, a bathroom, a utility room, two bedrooms, a suite with a walk-in closet and private bathroom (with disabled access), storage, a garage (with capacity for 1 car), and an outdoor area for parking another 2 vehicles. The outdoor area is divided into 4 distinct spaces: the swimming pool with a solarium area, a greenhouse, an underground cistern for rainwater collection, and a porch that has a dining area with a barbecue, an oven, garden storage, a pool equipment room and a changing room.
The design is reminiscent of traditional vernacular Azorean architecture, thanks to the sloping roof made of traditional straw, whitewashed walls, and a structure that incorporates arches reminiscent of old stables. In a markedly rural landscape, the house fades into the patchwork of buildings that dot the rural landscape.
