The City Stone Hotel is located in a house with a classic design from the early 20th century. The building, spread over four floors, follows a plan defined by the client. The basement floor houses the utility room and communal kitchen; the ground floor houses the living room and reception; the first and second floors house two suites per floor.
Both from the ground floor and from the basement, we reach the garden, equipped with a barbecue. Our goal was to enhance the existing attributes of the house, such as the classic elements of the main façade, as well as the carpentry of the interior openings. In the suites, we decided to reveal the structure of the main walls of the house, composed of dry stone paired and joined by mortar.
The design reflects the desire to enhance its urban setting — house located to the west of the city of Ponta Delgada, in an area composed of various manor houses and other properties that are now part of the urban heritage such as the São Miguel tobacco factory, the Santa Catarina palace, and the headquarters of the Communist Party. Therefore, we tried to keep the memory of the place.
