The Elite nightclub, now known as MANTA, successfully intended to be a different and distinctive meeting and nightlife spot in Ponta Delgada, Azores. In a small space with a restricted ceiling height, one of the constraints was to find a solution that could give greater visual amplitude to the nightclub. The ceiling was thus covered with a darkened mirror. The mirror is supported by a metallic lattice with a bronze finish, and in the east-west alignments of the structure there are LED lines that light up and change colour according to the music.
The shade proposed for the nightclub was petroleum blue, both on the painted walls and on the floor. The aim was to create a dark space, surrounded by blue, where the focus is on the DJ and his music. Keeping to the same theme, the bar and DJ countertops are made of Labradorite Madagascar granite. This is a granite with very bright blue veins that reflect according to the angle of the light. The shades of blue, emphasised by the ceiling mirrors that expand the space, contrast with the proposed wall fabric – drawings of roses in red tones. At the entrance of the nightclub we come across a wall full of roses. Then we enter the dance floor, wrapped in petrol blue. Entering the bathroom, we are once again surrounded by the strongly red wall fabric. Thus, a cadence of complementary colours is created inside the nightclub.
Since the nightclub is located in the historic centre of Ponta Delgada, the colour chosen for the façade and for the terrace that faces the street was black so as not to clash with the chromatic tones of the urban surroundings. The design of the terrace is the result of an aesthetic desire, developed with the aim of creating visual permeability and lightness.
